Wood fences in Riverside
Real wood for backyards and side yards: tight board-on-board privacy, modern horizontal slats and classic pickets.

Which woods hold up here?
Most of our wood fences use cedar or redwood boards. The weak point of any wood fence is the post, not the board, so posts are either rated for ground contact and set in concrete, or galvanized steel posts with a wood face.

What styles can we build?
- Dog-ear privacy, the everyday backyard fence.
- Shadowbox, with boards on both sides of the rail.
- Horizontal cedar slats for newer or remodeled homes.
- Lattice or trellis tops to add a little height and light.
How long will it last?
Expect the boards to gray and move a little in the first year. A penetrating stain slows that down. The fences that fail early usually have wet soil piled against the boards or posts that were never set deep enough.
Wood fences in back, open fences in front
A 6- or 7-foot wood privacy fence fits a single-family side or rear yard when it is not visible from the street. In front, wood is usually a low picket kept under 4 feet with the upper part open.
